School Board Approves Grade Alignment

LHS towerSuperintendent Holzman recently shared his excitement for the future with the following message to MPSD families:

Dear families of current MPSD students,

I am excited to announce that  the MPSD Board of Education passed final changes to our grade alignment process.

Beginning next school year, Manitowoc Lincoln High School will support students in 9-12 grade and Washington and Wilson Jr. High Schools will become 6-8 grade middle schools.

The District’s elementary schools will support students in 5K-5th grade. Stangel Elementary School students and staff will transition to Riverview Early Learning Center, which would become a 4K-5th grade elementary school. McKinley Academy will move its alternative high school and other programs and services into Stangel. The District will determine the future use of the McKinley building, the District’s oldest school built in 1891, in the future.

The District continues to work to support the student and staff transitions that will result from this change.  Future Middle School parents, please look for information shortly describing the course selection process and future open house dates.

I continue to be inspired by the talents of the students, staff, and families of the MPSD, and I look forward to the opportunities that grade alignment present.  The MPSD is dedicated to supporting all students to ensure their successful future transitions.

Sincerely,

Mark Holzman
Superintendent
