The MPSD is preparing for a great 2019-2020 school year and we are excited to welcome students back to school! 


For one year only, our schools will welcome two incoming grades as we implement a grade alignment plan that will increase student learning opportunities, staff collaboration and district efficiency. Starting in September, Lincoln will become a 9-12 grade high school, Washington and Wilson will be 6-8 grade middle schools, and our elementary schools will serve 5K-5th grade. 4K classes will remain at Riverview and community partner sites. Stangel Elementary will move to Michigan Avenue and will become Riverview Elementary.  The programs previously housed at the McKinley building will move to the Stangel building.  


To help ease students’ transitions and make them more comfortable at their new schools, MPSD is hosting these Back-to-School Events:

August 5-9, 2019: Washington and Wilson Middle Schools - Orientation week for incoming 7th graders (register here or on your school website to attend either the 8:00-10:00 session or 10:30-12:30 session)

August 12-16, 2019: Washington and Wilson Middle Schools - Orientation week for incoming 6th graders (register here or on your school website to attend either the 8:00-10:00 session or 10:30-12:30 session)

Wednesday, September 4, 2019: All Elementary Schools - Open Houses, 4:00-6:00pm - Families and students can meet teachers and staff, explore the building and drop off materials.

Thursday, September 5, 2019: Transition Day - this day is only for grades that are moving to new buildings. Schools will send more information in August but mark your calendars now for these students and times: 

Franklin, Jefferson and Madison Elementary Schools: incoming 5-year-old Kindergarteners and 1st graders, 8:10-11:30

Jackson and Monroe Elementary Schools: incoming 5-year-old Kindergarteners and 1st graders, 8:40-12:00

Riverview Elementary School (formerly Stangel boundary): incoming 5-year-old Kindergarteners and 1st graders, 8:40-11:45

Washington/Wilson Middle Schools: incoming 6th graders, 7:45-11:30; incoming 7th graders, 11:15-3:00

Lincoln High School: incoming 9th graders: 8:00-11:30; incoming 10th graders, 12:00-3:30

Stangel Learning Community (formerly McKinley building)all programs (McKinley Academy, Lincoln Alternative, MCCP) 9:00-11:30; breakfast and lunch will be provided. Open house 4:00-6:00pm

Friday, September 6, 2019: First Day of School for Grades 5K-12

Monday, September 9, 2019: First Day of School for 4K
