Act 55 - Educational Options Notice

In compliance with the 2015 Wisconsin Act 55, the Manitowoc Public School District is required to notify parents and publish a description of educational options available to children residing in the District.  This includes public and private schools participating in parental choice program, charter schools, virtual schools, full-time open enrollment, Youth Options Program, Course Options and options available to home based private educational program students. 

The following are educational options available within the Manitowoc Public School District boundaries:

Virtual Schools

Open Enrollment
Wisconsin’s public school open enrollment program allows students in 4-year-old kindergarten through grade 12 to attend any public school in the state if space is available and subject to certain other restrictions.  There is an open enrollment application period which is set by the DPI.  To view MPSD's Open Enrollment policy, visit http://neola.com/manitowoc-wi/ and search for "open enrollment." 

Course Options
The Course Options program allows students to take up to two courses at one time that are offered by other Wisconsin school districts, charter schools, institutions of higher education and approved nonprofit organizations at no cost to the student.  The following link provides more information on course options http://dpi.wi.gov/courseoptions

Early College Credit Program
The Early College Credit program allows juniors and seniors who meet certain requirements to take post-secondary courses at a UW school, Wisconsin technical college, or a private nonprofit institution of higher education.  To learn more please contact Lincoln High School personnel at 920-686-9600 or https://dpi.wi.gov/dual-enrollment/eccp

Wisconsin Academic Standards
The Manitowoc Public School District is utilizing the Wisconsin Model Early Learning Standards for the 4 year old kindergarten program.  The Common Core State Standards are used as a foundation for curriculum and instruction for K-12 English Language Arts (reading, writing, speaking and language) and Mathematics.  The science curriculum for grades 6-12 have been aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards, whereas grades K-5 are following the Wisconsin Academic Standards.  For all other subject areas, the MPSD is also following the Wisconsin Academic Standards.
